 Year 5

Year 5 is an exciting and challenging year. As the children enter into the more senior years of Key Stage 2, they are expected to take a more mature approach to their learning.

The children will complete individual research projects and develop a deeper knowledge of their own personal learning styles. They are encouraged to become co-operative learners; working with different groups of students, learning how to successfully interact with others. They will use their knowledge of Assessment for Learning to engage with assessment criteria and reflect of their own performance and that of their peers.

The children follow the National Curriculum for English and Mathematics and all other areas of the curriculum are taught through creative and relevant programs of study. Students travel back in time to look at Ancient Greece and the origins of the Olympics. They travel across continents and oceans to explore the physical and human geography of South America and topics such as Coasts, Erosion and The Water Cycle are brought to life during trips to the desert and to the local beach. Budding scientists are encouraged to get hands-on – with a range of scientific experiments that explore Lifecycles, How to Keep Healthy and the Earth, Sun and Moon.
