 Music

Pupils wishing to continue their musical studies into Key Stage 4 can opt to undertake the Edexcel GCSE music course.  During this program of study they are expected to perform on two instruments, compose two contrasting pieces modeled on the studied set works and to sit a listening paper in the June of Year 11.
While demanding in both the skills required and the amount of information to be learnt, we have been very successful with the grades achieved by our pupils.  Pupils undertaking the GCSE course are expected to take leading roles in the life of the department and actively participate in the musical life of the school.

Pupils who decide not to take the GCSE course can carry on with instrumental lessons and are encouraged to continue their participation in the performance opportunities offered including the orchestra, vocal, brass, wind, string, jazz and rock groups.  The more advanced performers are also encouraged to perform as soloists at events such as the weekly assemblies, the annual Charity Art Auction, Graduation and Prizegiving, DWA Handicraft and Cultural Show and DWS social evenings.  We are looking to build further on these opportunities through participation in Qatar Music Teacher Guild events such as the Qatar Schools Battle of the Bands and The Festival of Instrumental Performance.
