Curriculum >> Key Stage 2 >> Mathematics
In mathematics pupils develop both written and mental strategies for all four operations. They focus on using these to assist them in real life problem solving such as creating budgets and solving word problems involving money, measures and time. In addition to this we also teach children about shape and space. Developing from KS1 where pupils look at 2D and 3D shape properties, children will learn about nets of shapes and how to locate the area and perimeter.
At Dukhan English School we encourage children to carry out investigations in mathematics, this provides children with the opportunity to interpret data and construct a variety of graphs as well as answer questions relating to complex diagrams and charts. Where possible, children will use their ICT skills to represent data in pie charts and line graphs and will learn how to convert measures such as kilometers to millimeters.
